Online Testing Setup

Before taking the online test you will need a couple of minutes to complete a browser check.

Please note, you can take the test with a VPN. VPN is not perfect and you may come across issues during the test. If so, please contact support (Step 5 below).

Please follow the instructions below. If you have any technical questions, please go to Step 5 below.
1.  Check Language Keyboard
You may need to be able to type in both English and the language in which you are being tested. If you need to add a language to your computer, go to this tutorial: https://www.daskeyboard.com/blog/how-to-change-keyboard-language/

If you need to learn the keyboard shortcut to quickly switch languages, go to this tutorial: https://www.webnots.com/keyboard-shortcut-to-switch-language-in-mac-and-windows-10/

Important: If you are not familiar with the keyboard for the other language - what key gives é, for example - become familiar before taking the test. Get your keyboard layout at http://kbdlayout.info/ and print it.
 
2.  Enter the Testing Site to Run Audio/Keyboard Checks
  1. Get the Test ID Code provided to you by the instructor/school. Note: The Test ID Code is not your student ID.
     
  2. Close all running programs and open a test supported browser. Below is a list of the supported browsers.

    Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge

    Go to https://miis.spokentest.com
     
  3. Click Register, enter the Test ID Code provided to you by the instructor/school and complete the registration.
     
  4. You may be need to complete an audio check if the test requires it. Complete the audio check if prompted to do so. 
    Important: After each audio recording, the UPLOAD button must be clicked to save your audio.
     
  5. Next you will need to ensure that you are able to type in both English and, if applicable, the language in which you are being tested.
     
  6. Once you have completed the audio and/or keyboard checks, you are prompted to either take the test or return later to take it:

    "I want to take the test" option: Select this if you are ready to take the test.

    "I will take the test later" option: Select this if you are not ready to take the test. When you are ready, you will be required to register again and go through the audio and/or keyboard checks one more time to ensure they are still set up correctly.


3.  Start the Test
  1. Click "I want to take the test" option to start the test.
     
  2. Follow instructions and complete the questions.
     
4.  Exit the Test
When you have completed the test, simply log out and close your browser.

  1. Your Test ID Code

     
  2. The version of your operating system (for example, Windows XP, Mac OS 10.6, etc.)
     
  3. The version of your browser (for example, Internet Explorer version 11.192.16299.0)

     
  4. Information regarding the issue you are having (for example, answering an audio question in the test, etc.)

     
  5. Your contact information

     
NOTE: The secure browser is only supported in Windows XP, 7, 8 and up or Mac OS X 10.9 and up. If you are running an older operating system, please find another computer to complete the test on.
